Ship to Ship Operations

As agents of Gulf Transfer Services S.A. we can carry out liquid bulk transfer operations all over the Mediterranean and particulary within or near Maltese Territory.

Location - Malta

  • The island of Malta is strategically located (35 50N, 14 35E) at the centre of the Mediterranean Sea, at the confluence of major sea lanes linking Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
  • Off-shore STS operations can be undertaken within and outside territorial waters. Subject to weather conditions STS operations are usually undertaken on Hurd Bank, an offshore shallow bank located to the East of the islands.
  • A weather forecast service covering the Maltese islands and surrounding territorial waters is regularly provided on a daily basis by Valletta Port Control, in case of adverse weather conditions there exists the possibility of conducting STS transfers inside M’Xlokk port by double-banking of tankers alongside Oiltanking Terminal.
  • Malta is classified by the World Lightering Organisation as a level one response area.
